Born at Nottingham and lived at 12, Nile Street, Brook Street, Nottingham. Husband of Elizabeth Woolley. He was town labourer prior to enlisting 20th August 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France 24th March 1915 and was killed in action, 16th September 1916, aged 40, in the attack on the German positions at Guillemont, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
