Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Woolley, of 12, Nile Street, Brook Street, Nottingham. He was a fire grate fitter prior to enlisting on 10th June 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France on 27th December 1914 and was killed in action, 13th May 1915, aged 17, by German shellfire whilst in the line near Le Touquet, Belgium.
