Born at Hucknall, Nottinghamshire 7th February 1898. Son of James E. And Hannah S. Whyatt, of “Lyndhurst,” Church Drive, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. Educated at Mansfield Grammar School and joined the Inns of Court OTC in October 1916. He was gazetted Second Lieutenant Sherwood Foresters in April 1917, went to France in December 1917 and was killed in action near Neuvilly, France,13th October 1918. He was awarded the M.C London Gazette 2nd December 1918 ” For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership in an advance. When the troops on his flank were held up, he led a patrol under intense machine-gun fire and established touch with them. He then returned and skilfully led his company forward and occupied a position covering the threatened flank. He showed splendid coolness and initiative.”

Buried: Montigny Communal Cemetery, Nord, France. Row C, Grave 4.
