Lived at 11, Thurman Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. Went to France on 18th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 5th July 1916, aged 20, in the attack on the German positions at La Boisselle, France, during the Battle of the Somme.

Commemorated: Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.

His brother Private H. Shardlow, 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, also fell in the Great War on the same day.
