Lived at 11, Thurman Street, Nottingham. Went to France on 24th March 1915 and was killed in action, on 5th July 1916, aged 19, in the attack on the German positions at La Boisselle, France, during the Battle of the Somme.

His brother Private G. Shardlow, 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, also fell in the Great War on the same day.
