Born in Nottingham and lived at 87, Ena Avenue, Sneinton Dale, Nottingham. Son of Matthew and Ada Notman, of 2 Alpine Terrace, Nottingham. He was an apprentice bricklayer prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France on 28th February 1915 and was killed in action, 8th November 1915, aged 24, whilst serving in the line at Richebourg St Vaast, France.
