Born at Tupton, Derbyshire and lived at Pilsley, Derbyshire. Son of John Stanley and Mary Ellen May, of Garth House, Pilsley, Chesterfield. He was a grocers assistant prior to enlisting at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He died of wounds, on 21st August 1918, aged 24, at No, 24 Casualty Clearing Station, Italy.
