Born and lived at Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of John and Annie Knowles, of 208 Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield. Husband of Lucy Knowles, of 20 Shipley Street, Chesterfield. He was a cotton and wool carder prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He died of wounds, on 1st May 1917, aged 28, at No. 13 General Hospital at Boulogne, France.

Died: 1st May 1917, age 28.

Buried: Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France. Plot 4. Row C. Grave 42.
