Born at Kimberley and lived at Southwell, Nottinghamshire. Son of Henry and Alice A. Hopewell, of 8 Chatham Street, Southwell. Husband of Sarah. E. Hopewell. He was a lace hand at Carey and Son’s, Southwell prior to enlisting at Southwell. He went to France 25th February 1915 and was killed in action, 15th April 1915, being shot in the back, whilst part of a patrol which was sent to out to check the German wire.
