Lance Corporal Albert Holmes

Army Number : 13815 (Also known as Bower).

Battalion : 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Beeley, Derbyshire an lived at Matlock Green, Derbyshire. Adopted Son of Mrs. Amy Bower, of Whitbank Alton, Tupton, Chesterfield. He was a labourer prior to enlisting 25th August 1914 at Chesterfield. He went to France 17th August 1915 and was admitted to 8th Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, France, 5th November 1915, suffering from Trench Fever. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship Cambria, 7th November 1915. He returned to France 25th February 1916, was appointed Lance Corporal, 12th March 1916 and was killed in action, 31st October 1916, age 21, whilst serving in the line near Montauban, France during the Battle of the Somme.
