Born in Dublin, Ireland and lived at Guiseley, Yorkshire. Son of Henry and Elizabeth Cottrell, of West Villa, Oxford Road, Guiseley. He enlisted at Derby and was killed in action, 9th August 1915, aged 20, in the attack at Ismail Oglu Tepe, (Chocolate Hill), Gallipoli, Turkey.
