He was born at Cotham, Nottinghamshire. Son of George Henry and Ann Cope of 10 New Balderton Street, Newark, Nottinghamshire. Enlisted at Newark, Nottinghamshire and was killed in action, 7th April 1917, during the attack at Le Verguier, northwest of Saint Quentin, France.

Buried : Vadencourt British Cemetery, Maissemy, France. Plot 2, Row C, Grave 45.
