Born at Leicester and lived at Kimberley, Nottingham. Son of James and Elizabeth Chettle, of 47, Nottingham Road, Kimberley, Nottingham. He was a Butcher prior to enlisting, 18th May 1909. He went to France 10th September 1915, sustained gunshot wounds to his shoulder and chest, 10th August 1915 and died of wounds, 12th August 1915, aged 24, at No. 10 Casualty Clearing Station, Remy Siding, Belgium.
