Lance Corporal Frederick Caunt

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Nottingham and lived at 12, Hampton Terrace, Howard Street, Nottingham. Son of George and Emma Caunt, of 53, Walker Street, Nottingham. One of five brothers who fought in the war. He was a lace dyer prior to enlisting on 19th October 1909 at Nottingham. He served in India from 29th September 1911 to 2nd September 1914. He went to France on 4th November 1914 and sustained gunshot wounds to his back, 19th November 1914. He was treated at Paris, France and Merville, France before being transferred to England on Hospital Ship Carisbrook Castle, 4th December 1914. He returned to France on 18th March 1915 and was appointed Lance Corporal on 17th November 1915. He was killed in action, 27th October 1916, whilst in the line near Trones Wood, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
