Born and lived at Whittington, Derbyshire. Son of Thomas and Sarah Ann Carlile, of 102 Holland Road, Old Whittington. He was a coal miner at Grasmoor Colliery, Derbyshire. prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He went to France 13th October 1915 and was killed in action, 27th March 1918, whilst in the trenches near Vrely, France.
