Born and lived at Derby. Son of John and Lydia Caple, of 369 Green Street, Derby. Husband of Harriett Caple. He was a labourer prior to enlisting at Derby on 14th July 1902. He served in Manilla and Hong Kong from 5th March 1904 to the 6th December 1904 and Straits Settlements (Singapore) from 7th December 1904 to the 29th July 1913. He went to France on 4th November 1914 and suffered gunshot wounds to his left hand on 9th May 1915. He was admitted to the 1st Canadian Hospital, Boulogne, France, on 11th May 1915. He rejoined his battalion on 8th August 1915 and was killed in action on 5th July 1916 in the attack on the German positions at La Boisselle, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
