Born and lived at Nottingham  Son of David and Jane Butters, of Birkin Avenue, Hyson Green, Nottingham. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 1st July 1915 at Nottingham. He was discharged “having made a misstatement of his age on enlistment” on 28th June 1916. He later re-enlisted again at Nottingham and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
