Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of David and Jane Butters, of Birkin Avenue, Hyson Green, Nottingham. He was a Coal Miner prior to enlisting, 21st August 1913. He went to France on 11th November 1914 and was promoted to Corporal on 1st June 1918. He died of wounds, 19th October 1918, aged 23, at 74th General Hospital, Trouville, France.
