Born in Radcliffe-upon-Trent, Nottinghamshire. Son of W. Samuel and Mary Ann Bemrose, of Bingham Road, Radcliffe-upon-Trent, Nottinghamshire. He was a farm labourer and enlisted 5th December 1900 at Nottingham. Went to France 4th November 1914 and was killed in action 12th March 1915.
