Born and lived at Dunham-On-Trent, Nottinghamshire. Son of James and Harriet Beat of Dunham-On-Trent, Nottinghamshire. He was a groom and gardener prior to enlisting 19th May 1916, at Retford, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 23rd September 1918 and was killed in action, 8th October 1918, age 20, in the attack on the German positions at Bohain, France.
