Born and lived at Dunham-On-Trent, Nottinghamshire. Son of James and Harriet Beat of Dunham-On-Trent, Nottinghamshire. He was a farm worker prior to enlisting at Retford, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 24th September 1915 and was killed in action, 26th June 1916, aged 19, when a German shell hit his dugout, near Locrehoff Farm, Belgium.
