Born at Matlock Bath, Derbyshire. Son of John and Kate Allen, of Scarthin, Matlock Bath, Derbyshire. He was a cotton knotter prior to enlisting at Matlock. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
