Private James Edward Aldred

Battalion: 11th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
He was born at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Son of Samuel and Mary Ellen Aldred, of 190, Little Hallam Lane, Ilkeston. He was a lace factory hand (threader) prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France on 14th July 1915 and was killed in action, 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions near Ovillers, France during the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
