He was born at Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Son of Samuel and Mary Ellen Aldred, of 190, Little Hallam Lane, Ilkeston. He was an iron moulder apprentice prior to enlisting at Ilkeston. He was killed in action, on 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
