Battalion : 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Sneinton, Nottingham and lived at Stapleford, Nottingham. Son of William and Maria Wheelhouse, of 5, Alveys Yard, Fisher Gate, Nottingham. Husband of Martha Wheelhouse. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting 20th January 1902 at Nottingham. He served in Hong Kong, from 8th December 1903 to 6th December 1904, and Strait Settlements, 7th December 1904 to 29th January 1906. He went to France 10th October 1914. He suffered frostbite and was transferred to England on Hospital Ship St. Andrew, 3rd December 1914. He returned to France 18th March 1915 and was admitted to 23 Casualty Clearing Station, 8th April 1916 suffering from influenza. He was admitted to No. 9 General Hospital Rouen, France, 13th April 1916 and rejoined his battalion 23rd June 1916. He died of gas poisoning 5th October 1916.

His brother Lance Corporal Frederick Wheelhouse, 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, also fell in the Great War.
