Corporal George Henry Wells

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Clay Cross, Derbyshire. Son of Ernest and Annie Elizabeth Wells, of Market Street, Clay Cross. He was a grocer’s assistant prior to enlisting on 26th August 1914 at Chesterfield. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 21st December 1914 and went to France on 18th May 1915 and promoted Corporal on 9th April 1916. He died of wounds, 30th June 1917.
