1/7th (Robin Hood) Battalion: London Gazette 18.7.1917, At Loos, on the morning of the 17th May 1917, Sgt Watson made his way up a shallow trench past a supposed German post to within a few yards of the wire where he made his observation and brought back valuable information. On the night of 18th-19th May, Sgt Watson was in charge of a party of Rifle bombers detailed to go forward and engage the enemy on the left flank of a Raiding Party. In spite of the fact that the rifle bombers were wounded as they left our lines, he went on with one other man until within hand bombing distance of the enemy and bombed them from just outside their wire. There was a heavy barrage going on at the time. On the morning of the 19th May, he climbed over a forward barricade and went forward alone to within 15 yards of the Enemy’s barricade. He attracted attention by moving the wire, and 2 of the enemy looked over; they got down on confronting the Sgt’s revolver. It was thus ascertained that the enemy’s barricade was held by day.:
Killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 38, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
