Born at Nottingham and lived at 11, Meadow Cottages, Netherfield, Nottingham. Son of William and Anna Maria Ward, of 50, Hawkridge Street, Nottingham. Husband of Mabel Ward. He was a newsagent prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France on 25th February 1915 and was killed in action, 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
