Born at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of George and Matilda Wain, husband of Violet Wain. He was a miner at Bentinck Colliery near Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, prior to enlisting at Sutton-in-Ashfield. He was killed in action 8th June 1916.
