Battalion : 3rd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

He went to France on 16th May 1915. Supplement to London Gazette (24th February 1916) ” Captain George E. Venner, Special Reserve, to be temporary Major. Dated 2nd December 1915″. Attached 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters. Killed in action 8th July 1916 whilst under shellfire in Crucifix Trench near Contalmaison, France, during the Battle of the Somme.

Buried : Dantzig Alley British Cemetery, France. Plot 2, Row M, Grave 3.
