Born at Buxton, Derbyshire and lived at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. He was a miner at Summit Colliery, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. He enlisted at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire 1st October 1914, went to France 14th July 1915 and died from gas shell poisoning 20th August 1918, age 44.
