Born in North Luffenham, Rutland. Son of Thomas and Mary Ann Thorpe, of 2 Woodland View, Norton, Doncaster, Yorkshire. Lived at 39 Rectory Road, Clowne, Derbyshire and enlisted in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 17th August 1915 and was killed in action in the attack on teh German positions near Guillemont, Somme, France on the 16th September 1916, aged 22, during the Battle of the Somme.
