Battalion : 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Tipton, Staffordshire. Son of  James and Rose Thornton, of 20 Lock Side, Tipton. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Tipton. He was killed in action, 15th October 1916, aged 20, during the attack on the German positions near Montauban, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
