He was born at Daybrook, Nottingham. Son of Henry and Jane Terry, of The Burnall Arms, Winkburn, Nottinghamshire. He enlisted at Newark, Nottinghamshire 22nd January 1915, went to France 28th June 1915, was accidentally wounded in his face with a puncture wound to his right upper eyelid. He was treated at No. 6 General Hospital at Rouen, France 29th August 1915. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds in his back and buttocks 18th April 1916 and died of wounds 20th April 1916, age 21 at No. 30 Casualty Clearing Station at Aubigny, France.
