Son of George and Sarah Anne Swain, of 54, Derby Road, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Went to France on 27th August 1915. Killed in action, 1st July 1916, aged 18, in the attack on the German positions near Ovillers, France during the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
