Born at Wadsworth, Yorkshire. Son of Abraham and Elizabeth Ann Sutcliffe, of 8, Arthur Street, Barnoldswick, Lancashire. He was a cotton weaver prior to enlisting 13th January 1916 at Barnoldswick. He went to France 26th February 1916 ans was killed in action, 4th May 1917, aged 19, in the attack on the German positions at Malakoff and Cologne Farms, France.
