He was born at Kidderminster, Worcestershire. Son of Joseph and Matilda Surrall, of 15, Lion Square, Kidderminster. He lived at No. 10 Chadwicks Buildings, Clinsmore Street, Kidderminster. He enlisted at Kidderminster and was later transferred to the 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 7th April 1917, during the attack at Le Verguier, north-west of Saint Quentin, France.
