Lance Corporal James Sulley

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Arnold, Nottingham. Son of Mary Sulley, of 19, Drayton Yard, Arnold, Nottingham. He was a hosiery trimmer at Allen, Solley & Co., Arnold, Nottingham. He enlisted at Nottingham on 31st August 1914. Went to France on 27th January 1915. He was wounded in action on 20th October 1915 and admitted to No.26 Field Ambulance with gunshot wounds to his chest and back. He was transferred to No.2 Casualty Clearing station at Bailleul on 21st October 1915 then was admitted to No. 7 Canadian General Hospital at Etaples, on 22nd October 1915. From there, he was sent back to England on 27th October 1915. After recovering, he returned to his battalion in France on 28th March 1916. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 31st May 1916. He was killed in action on 5th July 1916 in the attack on the German positions at La Boisselle, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
