Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby) Regiment.

Born at Settle, North Yorkshire 8th August 1883. Son of Major William Anthony Stackhouse and Marianne Francis, of Taitlands, Settle, North Yorkshire. Educated at Riber Castle, Matlock, Harrow and the Royal Military College Sandhurst. Gazetted Second Lieutenant Lancashire Fusiliers 4th November 1902, promoted Lieutenant 13th March 1907 and Captain 21st January 1913. Served with the 4th Lancashire’s at the Curragh and in Tipperary but on its disbandment under the Territorial scheme was posted to the 1st Bn at Malta from which he was specially promoted to the Sherwood Foresters and served with the 2nd Bn at Kinsale, Aldershot, Plymouth and Sheffield. When his Battalion went to France in September 1914, he was left at home to train the New Army and was made Adjutant of the 10th Battalion, 7th September 1914. Was transferred to the Royal Berkshires in October but eventually went to France in November 1914 attached to the 1st Sherwood Foresters and was killed in action on 12th March 1915 at Neuve Chapelle during a German attack on the British front line.
