Born at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of Caroline Moss, of 3, Rodsfords Row, Skegby, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He lived at 21 Redcliff Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. Was previously a professional soldier with the Grenadier Guards having enlisted in January 1907 serving in India. He went to France on 8th September 1914 and was killed in action on 20th September 1914. aged 33, when the battalion was ordered to retake trenches taken by the Germans at the head of the Troyon Valley, France, during the Battle of the Aisne.
