Born at Basford, Nottingham. Son of Thomas and Julia Holmes Sheppard of 124, Hucknall Road, Carrington, Nottingham. He was a mechanic at Handley’s Clumber Street, Nottingham. He enlisted at Nottingham 4th May 1911, went to France 28th February 1915 and was killed in a trench when a Lance Corporal of the 1st Battalion Hampshire Regiment was cleaning his rifle and accidentally discharged a bullet, which hit Private Sheppard. He died 6th March 1915, age 21.
