Marmaduke Marshall: 2nd Lieut: 2nd Battalion: London Gazette 17.9.1917: For gallantry and devotion to duty at Lens on 1st July 1917. When commanding reinforcements for our front line he sent back those who had had very severe fighting, and then held on until ordered by Divisional Headquarters to withdraw. He had little or no sleep for two nights and three days. He showed splendid fearlessness whilst holding the trenches and great skill and energy in consolidating his position. Son of the Rev. M. Shaw and Sophie Elsie Shaw, of Withycombe Vicarage, Exmouth, Devon.
Killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 21, whilst holding the line near Morchies, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
Buried: Queant Road Cemetery, Buissy, France. Plot 6, Row H. Grave 29.
