Son of Arthur De Milt Severne and Adelaide Elizabeth Severne, of Wirksworth, Derbyshire. He was a mining engineer prior to enlisting at the outbreak of the as a Private into the Sherwood Foresters. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant 2nd September 1914. He went to France on 25th February 1915. On the 27th April 1915 at Kemmel, Belgium he rescued Lieutenant Daniels of the Royal Engineers, from asphyxiation, who was trapped when a tunnel when a mine was blown near the German lines. He was killed in action,10th May 1915, aged 23, whilst entering the J2 trench at Kemmel, Belgium.
