He was born Belisthorpe, Lincolnshire. Son of William Roberts and Lilian Rudkin (formerly Roberts), of Crown Lane, Thurlby, Bourne, Lincolnshire. He enlisted at Bourne, Lincolnshire and went to Gallipoli on 7th November 1915. He died on 26th November 1915, aged 25 when his dugout he was in collapsed.
