Born and lived at Middleton, Derbyshire. Son of John and Susannah Petts, of The Lanes, Middleton, Wirksworth, Derbyshire. He was a stone and marble mason prior to enlisting at Derby. He was killed in action, on 7th April 1917, aged 25, during the attack at Le Verguier, northwest of Saint Quentin, France.
