Born at Osbournby. Lincolnshire and lived at Bridge Street, Belper, Derbyshire. Son of Wattam and Mary Ann Pape, of 65, Southgate, Sleaford, Lincolnshire. He was a grocers manager prior to enlisting on 9th November 1914 at Belper. He went to France on 10th April 1916 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 28, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
