Born at Hanley, Staffordshire and lived at Shirebrook, Derbyshire. Son of Leah O’Brien, of 102 Cottage Square, Hanley, Staffordshire. Husband of Mary Jane O’Brien. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He was killed in action, on 1st October 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Flers/Le Sars, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
