Born and lived at Carlton, Nottingham. Son of John and Caroline Oakland, of 6, Birch Avenue, Carlton, Nottingham. He was a machine fitter prior to enlisting on 19th April 1918 at Nottingham. He went to France on 14th August 1918 and was killed in action, 18th September 1918, during the attack on the German positions near Lechelle, France.

Buried: Montay-Neuvilly Road Cemetery, Montay, France. Plot I. Row D. Grave 4.
