Born at Mexborough, Yorkshire and lived at Wombwell, Derbyshire. Son of Miles and Mary Norman, of 26 Myers Street, Wombwell. Husband of Mary Ann Norman. He was colliery blacksmith prior to enlisting at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 6th March 1916 and was killed in action, 3rd September 1916, during the attack on the German positions at Beaumont Hamel, France during the Battle of the Somme.
