Born and lived at Brampton, Derbyshire. Son of Edmund and Elizabeth Nicholls, of Mill Farm, The Croft, Chesterfield Road, Bolsover, Chesterfield. Husband of Lucy A. Nicholls. He was a colliery pump minder prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He went to France on 17th February 1915 and was killed in action, 7th July 1916, age 26, during the advance near Fricourt Wood/Shelter Wood, France during the Battle of the Somme.
